• PMO (TikTok, Snapchat) — “Piss me off” — used when something annoys you. Occasionally “put me on” (recommend me something) depending on context.
• NFS (Snapchat, Instagram) — “Not for sale” on Instagram posts; “no funny stuff” or “new friends” on Snapchat depending on context.
• Green dot (Snapchat, Instagram) — On Snapchat and Instagram, the green dot next to a name means the person is currently online / active in the app.
• GTS (Snapchat, TikTok) — “Go to sleep” — usually a late-night sign-off. Sometimes “good times”.
• WTW (Snapchat) — “What's the word?” — asking what's happening or what the plan is.
• ONS (Snapchat) — “On snap” (swearing something is true) — or “one night stand” in dating contexts.
• S/U (Snapchat, Instagram) — “Swipe up” — used on stories to point at the link or next content.
• SFS (Instagram, Snapchat) — “Shoutout for shoutout” — cross-promoting each other's accounts.
• FYP (TikTok) — “For You Page” — TikTok's main algorithmic feed. Landing on people's FYP means going viral.
• PFP (Discord, TikTok, Instagram) — “Profile picture”.
• DWU (Snapchat) — “Don't wait up” — I'll be back late / don't expect a quick reply.
• OOMF (X, TikTok) — “One of my followers/friends” — talking about someone without naming them.
• IB (TikTok) — “Inspired by” — crediting the creator whose idea or sound you're using.
• DC (TikTok) — “Dance credit” — crediting the original choreographer of a dance.
• POV (TikTok, Instagram) — “Point of view” — a video format where the viewer experiences the scene from a role.
• Ratio (X, TikTok) — When a reply gets more likes than the original post — a sign the crowd disagrees with the original. “Ratio'd” = publicly outvoted.
• Rizz (TikTok) — Charisma, especially in flirting. “Unspoken rizz” = attracting someone without saying anything.
• Gyat (TikTok) — An exclamation of attraction (from “goddamn”), typically reacting to curves.
• Delulu (TikTok) — “Delusional”, used playfully — being unrealistically optimistic, often about a crush or goal.
• Sigma (TikTok) — A “lone wolf” success archetype; often ironic. “What the sigma?” is a meme expression of confusion.
• Skibidi (TikTok) — Absurdist meme word from the Skibidi Toilet series — means nothing concrete; signals brainrot humor.
• Brainrot (TikTok, Discord) — Content so absurd or addictive it “rots your brain” — also the genre label for that content.
• Aura (TikTok) — Points-based charisma metaphor: impressive actions gain aura, embarrassing ones lose it (“-1000 aura”).
• Mewing (TikTok) — Jawline-defining tongue posture trend; also a gesture (finger over lips) meaning “can't talk, mewing”.
• Looksmaxxing (TikTok) — Trying to maximize physical appearance through grooming, fitness, or more extreme measures.
• Bet (Snapchat, TikTok) — “Okay / deal / for sure” — affirmative agreement.

• Mid (TikTok, Discord) — Mediocre, overrated — dismissive rating of something as average.
• NPC (TikTok, Discord) — “Non-player character” — someone acting robotic or without original thought; also a live-stream trend.
• Ick (TikTok) — A small behavior that instantly kills attraction (“he gave me the ick”).
• Situationship (TikTok, Instagram) — A romantic connection without defined labels or commitment.
• Soft launch (Instagram) — Hinting at a new relationship on social media without revealing the person (an arm, a second glass).
• Hard launch (Instagram) — Officially revealing a relationship with a clear photo or tag.
• Canon event (TikTok) — A formative (often painful) life experience that had to happen — “don't interfere, it's a canon event”.
• Roman Empire (TikTok) — A topic you think about constantly for no reason — “what's your Roman Empire?”
• Girl dinner (TikTok) — A low-effort snack-plate meal presented as dinner.
• Golden retriever energy (TikTok) — Friendly, loyal, easygoing personality (usually about partners).
• Beige flag (TikTok) — A quirk in a partner that's neither good nor bad, just odd.
• Red flag / Green flag (TikTok, Instagram) — Warning sign vs. positive sign in a person or situation.
• Touch grass (Discord, X) — “Go outside” — telling someone they're too online.
• Lurker (Discord, Twitch, Reddit) — Someone who watches/reads but never posts or comments.

• DND (Discord) — “Do not disturb” — Discord status that mutes notifications (red icon).

• Malding (Twitch) — Mad + balding — raging hard, usually said of streamers losing their cool.
• Copium (Twitch, Discord) — Cope + opium — jokingly “inhaled” when denying a hard truth.
• Hopium (Twitch, X) — Hope + opium — irrational optimism about an unlikely outcome.
• Sus (Discord, TikTok) — Suspicious, sketchy — popularized by Among Us.
• Based (X, Discord) — Confidently yourself regardless of others' opinions; agreement with a bold take.
• Cooked (TikTok, Discord) — Doomed or exhausted (“I'm cooked”). “Let him cook” = let him finish, he's onto something.
• Yapping (TikTok, Discord) — Talking too much about nothing (“what is bro yapping about”).
• Glazing (TikTok, Discord) — Excessively praising someone — over-the-top fanboying.
• Farming (X, TikTok) — Doing something repeatedly just for engagement or points (“engagement farming”, “aura farming”).
• Vanish mode (Instagram, Facebook) — Instagram/Messenger DM mode where messages disappear after being seen — and screenshots notify the other person.
• Time sensitive (Snapchat) — Snapchat notification label that bypasses iPhone Focus/silent modes for messages the app deems urgent.
• Restrict (Instagram) — Instagram feature: a restricted person's comments become invisible to others and their DMs go to requests — without them knowing.
• Bop (TikTok) — A really good song (“this song is a bop”). On TikTok it can also be used pejoratively for someone with many partners — context matters.
• ATP (TikTok, Snapchat) — “At this point” — expressing resignation or emphasis (“atp just stay home”).
• ASL (Snapchat, TikTok) — Classic meaning: “age, sex, location”. In newer slang it can also mean “as hell” (“funny asl”).
• Group 7 (TikTok) — A TikTok in-joke from a viral sound — commenting “group 7” signals you're part of the trend; it deliberately means nothing concrete.
• Yellow heart 💛 (Snapchat) — Snapchat friend emoji: you are each other's #1 best friends — you both send the most snaps to each other. Two weeks of this earns the red heart.
• Red heart ❤️ (Snapchat) — Snapchat friend emoji: #1 best friends with each other for two straight weeks. Two months upgrades to the pink hearts.
• S (streak snap) (Snapchat) — A snap marked “S” means it's just a streak-keeper — no reply needed, only keeping the daily streak alive.
• OBO (Facebook) — “Or best offer” — seen on Facebook Marketplace listings; the seller accepts offers below the listed price.
• Take a break (Facebook) — Facebook feature that quietly limits what you and another person see of each other without unfriending or blocking.
• Moots (X, TikTok, Instagram) — “Mutuals” — people who follow each other. “We're moots” = we follow each other.
• WYLL (Snapchat, TikTok) — “What you look like?” — asking someone to send a photo of themselves, common in Snapchat chats.
• Sturdy (TikTok) — To dance hard / get hyped (“let me see you get sturdy”) — from the NY drill scene.
• Ion (TikTok, Snapchat) — Contraction of “I don't” (“ion care” = I don't care).

Why slang differs by platform

Each platform's culture produces its own vocabulary. Snapchat slang leans toward messaging shorthand (GTS, WTW, DWU) because the app is chat-first. TikTok slang comes from trends and audio memes (rizz, gyat, canon event), so it changes fastest. Discord and Twitch share gamer vocabulary (AFK, poggers, copium) shaped by live chat speed.
