Facebook Post & Reel Details API
Facebook post or Reel — caption, engagement, author id, video{} playback, and music when Facebook exposes them.
GET request to /v1/facebook/details that responds with clean JSON and costs 2 credits. Pass cache=true for a free 24h cache hit; default is always fresh. Start with 100 free credits — no credit card. What is the Facebook Post & Reel Details API?
Paste a Facebook post or Reel URL and get clean JSON: caption (no description twin), publishedAt, fetchedAt, engagement (likes / comments / views / shares always keyed — null when unknown or not a video; never invent shares:0), author (including stable author.id when present), and video{} as the only playback block (id / url / sdUrl / hdUrl / width / height / captionsUrl). durationSeconds and thumbnailUrl stay on the post for cards. No flat videoUrl / videoSdUrl twins. feedbackId is base64("feedback:" + id) — the token /facebook/comments accepts; fully derivable from id. music when Facebook exposes it. Each keyed likes/comments/shares/views count carries *IsApproximate (false when the count is null). facebook.com/share/<id> (the mobile Share button) is classified before any scrape: a redirect that lands on /posts/, /reel/, or /videos/ is followed; otherwise the call is 400 UNRESOLVED_SHARE_LINK in about a second — never 14–23s of NOT_FOUND for a shape we did not parse. A page URL is 400 WRONG_RESOURCE_TYPE. Note: for some Reels, the view count on the individual post page can be null or lower than the public Reels grid badge — use Facebook Profile Reels and match by post id if you need that badge count. Flat 2 credits per call.
What you get
- video{} is the only playback block — no flat videoUrl / videoSdUrl twins
- engagement always keys views / shares (null on photo posts) plus *IsApproximate
- author.id + feedbackId (the /facebook/comments token) + fetchedAt

Response structure
A successful call returns success and a data object with the following fields:
Top-level fields
platformPlatform identifier for this response (matches the endpoint's platform).urlCanonical URL of the item.idStable platform ID for the item.captionPost text. There is no description twin (the old example copied caption into description).descriptionDescription text.publishedAtPublish date (ISO 8601) when the platform exposes an absolute timestamp.durationSecondsLength in seconds for this item (full media length, or a segment span when the endpoint documents a start/end).thumbnailUrlThumbnail image URL.videoUrlPlayback URL when the platform exposes one. Content type varies by platform — check videoType (hls vs mp4) before treating it as a downloadable file.isVideoWhether the item is a video.linkLink URL.
Author
The author object contains:
usernameAccount username / handle.displayNameDisplay name of the account. Canonical across profile endpoints (prefer over name).urlCanonical URL of the item.profileImageProfile image URL. Deprecated alias of avatar on Instagram/Twitter/Threads/TikTok profile endpoints (one release).verifiedWhether the account is verified on this platform.
Engagement
The engagement object contains:
viewsAlways keyed. View count on a video/Reel; null on a photo or when unknown — never treat a missing key as 0.viewsIsApproximateAlways keyed. true when views came from a compact og label (e.g. 610K views). false when views is null or an exact integer.likesLike count (number).commentsComment count.sharesAlways keyed. Share count when Facebook exposes it; null on a photo or when unknown. Never invented 0.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Facebook Post & Reel Details API do?+
The Facebook Post & Reel Details API lets you fetch full metadata and key stats from a public Facebook post using one GET request to /v1/facebook/details. It returns clean JSON — no OAuth or infrastructure setup required.
How many credits does the Facebook Post & Reel Details API cost?+
Each successful call costs 2 credits. Pass cache=true to serve from the 24h cache (0 credits on hit); default is always fresh. Selected profile endpoints also accept cacheMaxAge=1d|3d|7d|14d|30d. Failed or empty results are never charged.
Do I need a Facebook API key or OAuth?+
No. A single Captapi key works across every platform Captapi supports — YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, Reddit, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Rumble, Spotify, Kwai, and more. We handle proxies, rate limits, retries, and authentication for you.
Where did videoUrl go? The example used to have it.+
Removed (FB-3). Playback is only on video{id, url, sdUrl, hdUrl, width, height, captionsUrl}. durationSeconds and thumbnailUrl stay on the post for cards. There is no flat videoUrl / videoSdUrl / videoHdUrl twin — data.videoUrl is undefined on every video.
Why is there no description? And why are views/shares missing on a photo?+
description was a byte-identical copy of caption (the same GP-5 twin group-posts dropped). It is gone. views and shares are now always keyed — null on a photo, never omitted, never invented 0. likesIsApproximate / commentsIsApproximate / sharesIsApproximate / viewsIsApproximate ship on every 200.
What is feedbackId?+
base64("feedback:" + id) when Facebook exposes it — the same token /facebook/comments accepts. Fully derivable from id; not extra information.
I pasted a facebook.com/share/… link and got Post not found after 20 seconds.+
That was a classifier miss, not a missing post. The Share button on Facebook's mobile app copies /share/<id>/, which is a redirect. We now follow that redirect when it lands on a canonical /posts/, /reel/, or /videos/ URL. If it does not (logged-out Facebook often drops a post share onto the author's profile), you get 400 UNRESOLVED_SHARE_LINK in about a second with the shapes we accept — never NOT_FOUND. Open the link in a browser while logged in and paste the resulting URL.
Is the Facebook Post & Reel Details API suitable for production use?+
Yes. It is a stable REST endpoint with predictable JSON and automatic retries. Pass cache=true to serve from the 24h cache (0 credits on hit); default is always fresh. Selected profile endpoints also accept cacheMaxAge=1d|3d|7d|14d|30d. Use it for analytics, monitoring, and content automation.
