Twitch Helix API alternative (2026)
Twitch Helix requires a developer-console Client-ID and, for most endpoints, an app access token. Captapi returns public channel, VOD, schedule, and clip JSON with one Bearer key — including curator vs channel on clips, and a parsed playback token with expiresAt.
Is Captapi a good Twitch Helix API alternative?
Use Captapi for public read: a channel card (socials, topClips, live stream when live), the first 100 VODs, the upcoming schedule, or one clip with curator separate from channel and a signed MP4 URL that names its expiry. Use Helix when you need EventSub, chat, bits, subscriptions, or any write/moderation scope on a channel you control. Captapi does not cover those.
Captapi vs Twitch Helix API
| Captapi | Twitch Helix API | |
|---|---|---|
| Auth | One Captapi Bearer key | Twitch developer console Client-ID + app or user access token |
| Clip identity | channel{} and curator{} already split on /v1/twitch/clip | broadcaster_id and creator_id on Get Clips — you join users yourself |
| Signed clip MP4 | signedVideoUrl + playbackAccessToken.expiresAt on the clip payload | You assemble playback from Helix + the clip page token yourself |
| VOD depth | First 100 matching videos — anonymous GQL rejects deeper cursors | Helix Get Videos paginates with a user token / app token |
| Write / EventSub | No — public read only | Yes |

Matching Captapi endpoints
Why developers pick Captapi
- No Twitch developer application and no Client-ID to rotate
- Clip payload already splits curator from channel
- signedVideoUrl ships a parsed expiresAt so you know when to refetch
- Empty schedule is 0 credits — not a billed miss
Worked examples
Frequently asked questions
Can I call the Twitch API without OAuth?+
Helix still wants a Client-ID and usually an app token. Captapi does not: send Authorization: Bearer capt_live_… to /v1/twitch/profile, /user-videos, /user-schedule, or /clip.
Do clip video URLs last?+
No. /nauth/ MP4s need sig+token; unsigned returns 401. The clip payload includes expiresAt. Persist the clip slug and refetch — do not cache the MP4 past that stamp.
Can I pass a channel URL to /v1/twitch/clip?+
No. That is a 400. Channel URLs belong on /v1/twitch/profile. Clip URLs look like clips.twitch.tv/<slug> or twitch.tv/<channel>/clip/<slug>.
